HOME STUDIES FOR ADOPTION
INCLUDING LGBT FAMILIES
INCLUDING LGBT FAMILIES
All adoptions in the State of Florida require the use of approved home studies for all domestic and international adoptions. A home study includes:
- A Comprehensive Psychosocial Interview with each prospective parent
- Background clearances – including a criminal background check & child abuse registry check
- 2 Home Visits
- Various forms including but not limited to:
- Financial Forms
- References
- Medical Clearance
This process has three purposes: to educate and prepare the family for adoption, to gather information about the prospective parents and to evaluate the fitness of the adoptive family.
*LGBTQ adoption is the adoption of children by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ) persons.
